Traditional Jordanian Music

Last night, Ryuji and I went to Northern Hashimi, which is about 15 minutes north of Amman to observe a rehearsal of a traditional Arabic music. About 25 men, ages 55-75, gathered in a community center and rehearsed. Supported by the Amman municipality and lead by Oud player Sakher Hattar, this group rehearses twice a week and performs every Wednesdays. A music salon of sorts, veteran musicians (cello, violin, double bass, nai, oud, arabic percussion, and vocalists) gather to exchange their wealth of experiences, discuss various music choices of traditional numbers, and work to preserve and advance Arabic music.
